Somehow it looks like a tick to me …. Hmm TickDrive or iTick would be a cool name for it.
From the wish-I’d-thought-of-that department: the Flashbag. It’s a
standard USB flash drive that has a tiny pump in it that inflates when you load
it with data. So if your drive is full of stuff, it blows up like a balloon, but
if it’s empty it remains flat and rectangular. It’ll stay inflated even when
powered down, so you’ll be able to estimate how many more MP3s you can leech
from your friend’s computer just by taking a gander.Read more here!
Not exactly new – have seen something like that quite a while ago here: http://www.allevio.com/squeeze1.htm
I like the idea of it. In practice, I think it would be an annoying nuisance. No matter how much data it’s carrying, I still want it to fit in my pocket.
I do not like this idea at all. I’d prefer a meter or indicator rather than it getting larger.
What if it’s a tight USB fit with other things plugged in. Plus, if it’s full or nearly full all the time, how annoying for it to be physically larger.
Gee wiz is moderately amusing, but practically speaking, eh.
Kinda lame, IMO.
Why would it need to know about the filesystem structure? Why can’t it just count bits (bytes)?
After all, regular bags don’t need to know what you’re going to store in them, either…
Wait, now I understand. No “free” bit value.
This is silly. Much rather just have a small LCD that shows capacity – or better yet, forget that, I’ll just plug the damn thing in and check like I do now.
This is so awesome. I cant wait to get one just to have a data-sucking tick hanging off the front of my computer.
Different filesystems use the space on a storage device in different ways; some blocks are used for data, others for bookkeeping, and so on. The device doesn’t understand the meaning of the operations it performs at the level of the filesystem. It is merely operating on a sequence of bytes.
game over; you win the internet for this one
hey, is that a ZipTick in your pocket? or are you glad to see how much info I can store?… ok, lame, but.. come on? I thought smaller was better? it’s not the size that matters.. blah blah blah… ;D
It’s a moot point: they all use FAT.
… also doubles up a USB powered, inflatable butt plug.
The way to go

Sexy idea… but it would need to have some logic to know how full the flash chips are, and that on the other hand depends on the firmware understanding the filesystem structure.
