So I finally got the SMC wifi Skype phone. I had it shipped over to my moms because this saved me 30 Euros in shipping. For some reason that had problems with shipping it to Ireland. But no worries shipping to the us will be something like 6 bucks or so.

Here is the baby .. nice and cozy and still all wrapped up:

First thing it wants you to do is to charge the phone for 8 hours .. arrrgg bummer

So 8 hours later I started playing with the phone… it was actually very easy to set up your network and your existing Skype account. You can even sign up for one through the phone.

When I was reading the instructions I kind of got upset, because it said that you have the be logged out form your skype account on your computer before you can login via the phone. It turns out that you can do both . maybe because of the latest version of skype. It would have been very upsetting to sign up for new account just for the phone. So now I can still use skype fro chatting on the PC and when I need to do a call I just use the phone. Awesome!

The menu of the phone looks like a mini version of Skype which is nice – because if you used Skype on the PC … you won’t have any problems navigating through the phone menu.

Overall I am very happy with the phone – but there are couple of things I don’t like.

1. It feels kind of cheap – like a cell phone from the year 2003

2.You can’t send chat or short messages

3.The sound of the phone is not too good. When I use my USB Skype phone it sounds much better. But that’s because I am on the second floor and the router is all the way downstairs.

The whole package is $159 and comes with tons of stuff.. see here! (The 500 Minutes is only a $10 value … sorry did my math wrong )
