A properly made electric powered skate with correct voltage-voltage match and wiring done by someone over the age of 5 years old would have a very little chance of melting the plastic of the skates whereas having an INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE ATTATCHED TO YOUR FOOT HANGING AN INCH OFF THE GROUND seems much more dangerous than a small 4'' diameter 4'' long DC motor. plus you expect me to skate 25 mph with a liter of gas sloshing around on my heel? As if balance wouldn't already be difficult enough! Electric is surly the only way to go when it comes to the (hopefully bright) future of powered roller skates. (by the way, try using a 24 volt 250-350 watt scooter motor. They are relatively cheap and should move up to 200lbs at around 20 mph if made properly with the right gear ratio. With a pair of $100 blades, building it should cost you around $300 maybe a bit more.) also, how long a battery lasts depends on what material it is made of. you could buy 2 rechargeable high quality 12 volt batteries and get a good amount of run time on them.

electric ones are a great idea, the problem with it its electric ones would most likely cost upwards of 400 a pair or more, the batteries would have to be lithium polymer cells with most likely a brushless rc motor, another down side is that these types of motors are not designed for the wear and tear of pushing upwards of 150 lbs and would have trouble accelerating
along with this if you went up a hill and the electrics failed and rolled backward with the engine running you could melt the magnet or damage the coils and they probly would not be able to run more than 20 to 30 minutes max without a recharge, so although absolutly a great idea the technology really isnt there yet for gas ones or electrics, even if it is petty kickas

wow these are cool, the motor seems kinda big, im working on an electric powered version of these, except without that huge thing on the back, ive already done 14 test runs with my proto types, ive got the cuts and scraps to prove it :P, it has an electric motor that turns the back wheel of each of the roller blades, im trying to work on getting wireless controls for brakes and speed

What would be cooler if the motor was smaller and compact like a electric one with some good power as well a good design.
