    Way back on the H.S. swim team (1965), we used to train using 10′ lengths of surgical rubber tubing with one end tied to our ankles and the other end tied to an anchor point at the edge of the pool.

    The coach’s goal was for us to develop upper body strength and endurance through resistance training.

    “Our goal” was to see if anyone could reach the other end of the pool before tiring out and being slingshot backward through the water.

    It was much more fun than hours of doing laps.
