Best Tour in Chicago – Architecture River Cruise

Filed in Photography , Travel 6 comments

I started my trip to the US in Chicago and once of the highlights was the "Architecture River Cruise" which is organized by the Chicago Architecture Foundation. And I did not get paid to write about it … it was just one of the best tours I have been on ever. And after learning about all the buildings it was really fun walking through a city because I felt like a pro.

One of the famous Chicago lift up bridges …. couple of the Batman Begins scenes have been filmed right here around the Chicago River.

This is the Marina City building (above) my absolute favorite building in Chicago.

The almighty sears tower …. my tip though (well, thank you Katie) go to the Hancock Tower … and have a drink in the bar. I’d say better view and you get a buzz for almost the same price of the observation deck.

More info on the Architecture River Cruise.

It takes an hour and leaves from the Navy Pier …. when standing in front of the pier take a right along the the lake and you will run automatically into the tour.

The price per adult is 24 bucks but you can also buy them from ticketmaster for $28. I’d only recommend buying them from them at high season and on a weekend.

Too bad you couldnt be there in March for St Patty’s Day when they actually dye the Chicago River bright green for the day. It is pretty impressive and adds to the ambiance of the celebration.

Jessica…

yeah .. St. Patrick’s Day would be awesome. If you live in Chicago and you are going next year, you should send me some pictures.

Thank you for reading RGS.

The Architecture River Cruise presented by The Chicago Architecture Foundation does NOT leave from Navy Pier but rather Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive on the Chicago River. Many boat companies try to confuse the general public but Chicago’s First Lady located on The Chicago River is the ONLY RIVER CRUISE connected with The Chicago Architecture Foundation, and the only one who uses, real, trained, volunteers. You can’t pay for their passion and expertise. Best to get your ticket in advance and don’t get on the wrong boat. http://www.Ticketmaster.com

Teresa,

thank you very much for your comment. Don’t have the feeling that I need correction of where to found the cruise and how to buy tickets (how I wrote above .. tickets from Ticketmaster are 4 bucks more expensive and when we went there was no line but on weekend could be totally different story).

I see that you are affiliated with the First Lady .. what about some free tickets for my Blog readers ;)

Marina twin towers are the best pieces of architecture of contemporary Chicago high risers! I love them!!!!!!!!!!
