own server

Sounds like magic but it’s probably not. We don’t have a flatrate and on top of that our provider wouldn’t ike to see the masses of traffic going through them labeled as "private" use. But an own server would be sweet. In the past we had some couple of hardcore problems with providers…. Any thoughts on that cube?

Square One’s internal 320GB hard drive provides convenient backup and storage for all the computers on your network (Windows, Mac OS, or Linux). Easily share videos, photos, music and other files between computers, without having to set up file sharing on each PC. To help with backups, Square One comes with award-winning Memeo software that instantly and automatically backs up your valuable files from Windows PCs to Square One. Best of all, Square One’s exclusive Web Drive software gives you password-protected, direct access to your files remotely from any Internet-connected PC.

Square One’s built-in router lets you share a single Internet connection with all the computers in your home or small office. You can connect up to four computers to MyServer using the integrated 10/100 Mbps switch. To connect additional clients, just add an external switch or a wireless access point. Square One also acts as a hardware firewall, protecting your network from intrusion by malicious Internet hackers. Network Address Translation (NAT) technology hides your computers from the Internet by assigning them private IP addresses, while Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) blocks illegitimate communications before they ever reach your desktop. Plus, you can set up outbound firewall rules to protect your computer users from accessing dangerous or inappropriate services on the Internet. For advanced users, a special DMZ port lets you run public servers behind the firewall without compromising the security of the rest of the network.

Have you ever wanted your own blog or website, but didn’t want to pay monthly hosting fees? Or you didn’t have the time or inclination to set up your own web server? Then Square One is the perfect solution for you. Despite its small size, Square One is a potent web server. With Apache, PHP, and MySQL all preinstalled, Square One is ready to serve up even the most advanced Web sites, right out of the box.

This looks more like it is designed to run on a home network. We have a homebuilt one that performs the same function here. You could look into getting your own dedicated server that you control hooked up at a hosting facility, but you would want a nice rack mounted system with redundant hardware like a Dell Poweredge.

If you used this box from home, then all your traffic would be routed over your own internet connection, and there is no way you could handle the load.
