Hotels.com and Cheaptickets helped me to organise the trip.

hutong-first-row

For our first night out in Hong Kong I had a very last surprise for Mike – The Hutong – which our Hotel was very helpful to make the reservations for us.

From their website:

Hutong with its bird’s eye location on the 28th Floor of One Peking in Tsim Sha Tsui, has the charm of old China alongside the glitz of the new….and with cuisine to match. Calvin Yeung brings you a menu based on traditional Northern Chinese food with a contemporary twist – no heavy cornflour and no MSG. Instead the subtle and spicy flavours of the cuisine shine through.

Amongst the dishes to tempt are ”Braised prime beef rib with Chinese spices wrapped in lotus leaves” and “Mandarin fish fillets in a sea of crispy garlic and peanut” and the famous signature “Crispy de-boned Lamb” served on a long wooden platter. The strips of lamb are marinated and cooked till crispy on top but inside the delicate meat is soft and just melts in the mouth!

I was pretty nervous going to that super fancy restaurant, because I am not a super fancy kind. But I am very glad we went, because the view was breath taking and the food was very good as well. Even though a lot of times we didn’t know how to eat it without looking like idiots …should be use the chopsticks now or our hands.

The whole restaurants is pretty dark:

…. and the waiters are all dressed in black and they must wear sneakers I am pretty sure …. because you are constantly surrounded by them …. all of a sudden there is an arm to put the dishes on the table, refilling your rice wine cub or whispering in your ear that you should dunk this in that sauce. It’s kind of spooky.

Here some food and wine images:

That asparagus dish was the best …. just thinking about it makes me really hungry.

To sit in the first row …. you should make reservations pretty early. I’d recommend calling them directly and don’t depend on making reservations through their website. Since I tried that and they haven’t gotten back to me, which was a little frustrating.

Their phone # +852.3428.8342

and their are located right here which is very close to the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station in Kowloon.

Please keep there is a minimum order of HK$300 per person. (If you just want drinks and enjoy the view go to the "Aqua" Bar which is located one floor above the Huntong".

Also take a look the restaurants website …. there you will find tons of other cool restaurants in Hong Kong … including a super cool paar called Aqua Luna which is on a boat "Junk" shipping around the Hong Kong Harbor.

Yes, this is a very attractive restaurant. The location is convenient by either the MTR or the Star Ferry. The view of Hong Kong Central across the Victoria Harbor is unbeatable. The decor is stylish and interesting thought not necessarily comfortable. We had a dinner there for a party of four early in June. The food tended to be relatively strongly seasoned. The service was good. Our experience was marred by sand, including a green pea sized pebble, in one of the vegetable dishes.

THIS IS what I call a real restaurant, and real food. I’m tired of the American comfort food crap we’re limited to here. I checked out their website and I will definitely go here next time I’m in HK. Love the different ethnic themes too. Thanks for posting.
