Hotels.com and Cheaptickets helped me to organise the trip.

I was kind of bad with posting from our Asia Trip … I didn’t even post a third. And the best stories are still coming up.

At least for me, eating while traveling is almost the most important activity while being in a different country. And if you are on a budget while traveling Hong Kong / Asia fast food can be a nice relive on your budget. Even though good food out there is pretty cheap.

Here is a list of couple of places we tried out in Hong Kong / China:

Café de Coral:

Almost all of those Fast Food Restaurants work the same. You come in, take a look at the menue (they have value meals as well) pick what you like, order from the host. You will get a receipt…. go to the open kitchen:

Give them your receipt and they will place your order on a tray. Then you go and enjoy your meal at an empty table:

If you can find one.

Be prepared to get stared at, for some reason locals are very curious on what you ordered and even more important on how you eat the food.

And restaurants like that are all over the place and are fairly cheap. To be honest though .. Café de Coral was not my favorite.

Below are 2 Japanese (I think) Chains:

Japanese-Chain

yoshinoya

I really like Yoshinoya .. YUMMY!

Here a Chinese Fast Food Chain:

This is the logo of the restaurant. No idea what it’s called.

Here you claim your table first … get your tea and take a look at the menue. Head over to the kitchen and like in our case point at the things you like to eat. We both loved that place … as you can see:

Very popular are those snack stands where you can buy various (fried) things on a stick!

street-restaurant

horny-for-sausagees

You are pretty safe when you pick the sausages. We had also some kind of weird fish ball thing … I was pretty close to spit it right out again.

This is not exactly food … but I recommend trying freshly squeezed bamboo juice or fresh soy milk:

bamboo-juice

They put a whole bamboo stick in that machine and you will get a cub of that very refreshing drink.

The following fast food options where not in Hong Kong:

A whole restaurant outside in the middle of the streets in Macau above.

Huntong-Fast-Food

And here a Hutong Restaurant in Beijing … full and drunk for less than 2 bucks ;)

The most bizarre fast food moment was that Nuclear Meal I had in the Forbidden City!

You have to read the instructions … they are pretty funny :) … The dish itself pretty yikish!

Bon Appetit!
