OK, it’s not that Burt Lancaster and he is technically rubbing the paper on top of a fish but it’s still a correct statement.

Burt’s fantastic art (the Japanese call it Gyotaku) is very impressive. He rubs different colours onto the paper to give the fish their realistic feel.

As the website says,

“Burt has attempted to express a variety of colors, textures and compositions through this unique artform, breaking with the traditional boundaries of this historic medium. Today, Gyotaku is an alternative to mounting fish, and has become a recognized form of fine art”

I’ve seen art work like this before, it is really interesting. I saw the process on Martha Stewart and the guy actually painted the fish and then he placed paper over the fish.

    Really cool idea.
