UPDATE: This video is a hoax and it will break your equipment!!!!! Thank you RGS readers for pointing it out….. I am really sorry if I caused any trouble! So don’t try what you see in the video … rather hunt down that dude who was creating it!

More than likley you’ll end up blowing a fuse in whatever you hook this up too. That’s what shorts do. You might as well twist the two ends together and tape them to the tin foil. You’ll get the same result. A Short. This is a horrible prank that is going to cost some poor person their system.

I, or my dad rather, has a studio quality stereo system. I hooked up my homemade speaker to it, turned it all the way up, expect nothing to happen - BUT if I turned it all the way up, you could actually just barely hear the sound. It was so quiet, and that was with a really powerful stereo turned up as loud as it would go, and I could just barely hear it.
So it works, but not what I would call ‘High-Def’.

This is most definatly a hoax. But I agree with Christina. I built a very simialr design but i used two individual pennies on the underside of the foil. I used 14-guage wiring with real terminals. There is barely any sound whatsoever but the main point of the myth is to create a bit of sound. Suprisingly, there was a very bit of sound. Ocasionally, i could hear a more clear sound coming from the copper wire connected to the source. I had only run 30 watts peak through the speaker. Using an ohmmeter, I calculated an impedance of about 40 something Ohms. I definatly suggest not to try this as there could be a definate overohmage of your source. if you have all old not-so-good equipment, its worth a waste of time if you are bored. I also suggest not to put your ear too close to try to hear, there is a definate risk of shock.
