Will my computer drama be over now? I really hope so. Since January this year I wiped out my acer countless times, I deserve a break. Anyway after spending 5 hours in Sligo I decided to buy one. I just didn’t feel like waiting any longer or go through the hassle of buying one in Germany or in the US.
Here it is: Toshiba A200-17I
- AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 Processor
- 1.9GHZ, 1600 MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache
- Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
- 2GB Memory
- 160 GB Hard Drive
That’s a very fast baby – in fact I never worked on a faster laptop.
The sales person at PC-World was nice and trying to be helpful but he would refuse to tell me how long that laptop would run just on battery. ARG… he said store policy! What kind of policy is that? I can just go online and look it up. Frustrating! So I did go to an internet cafe to look up the machine. Weird thing though … there was barely any information on that laptop – which made me really nervous. Turns out the A200-17I just hit the stores and on top of that I was searching for the wrong model … A200-171 !!!
This new gadget cost me €799 and I got a pretty good value in performance, at least compared to the other notebooks in store.
An other annoying thing was, that the sales person had me sitting down with him in an office just to push their extended warranty on my which costs 299 Euros for 3 years. First of all, the first year is covered by the manufacture and it is more than a third of the purchase price. No WAY! Who would ever fall for that. I’d rather buy a laptop for 300 Euros more instead if I would have the budget.
In couple of weeks I will post a more detailed review – let’s pray that I still like it until then
Also, if Google sent you to this post and you are thinking of buying the same model, feel free to leave a comment with your questions.

Hi.
I bought the same model yestarday @PC World Nottingham, and I have not seen Your review before. To be honest it’s a x-mass gift for my girlfriend, and all I expect from this laptop is to run Sims 2 well.
System runs fast, keyboard works fine, I’l write some more after christmas. ;]

SIMS 2 runs good (slowing down a bit on far zoom out), but sometimes something strange is happening with textures. Maybe is because of that *****n Vista. I’m gonna clean it up and install Win XP.

Mihai, I paid 799 Euros. Too bad that I didn’t have any plans traveling to the US in the futuer. I would have bought it there then. Oh, well. Which one did you buy?

Sherry,
I think the machine is still fabulous. The only problem I had was that my exilim Z-75 and Vista does not get along very well. I tried to update the drive but I am haven’t really figured out how to do that. But that’s more a problem with vista than with the A200 17i.
Still a thumbs up from me.
