This is a great idea. It does get old when everyone complains about burning wood. What a great way to recycle. I would not worry about people burning wood. You should worry more about 6 billion people in the world creating moe pollution driving cars than a few people burnng wood

dark: You've missed something here: by compressing the newspapers together tightly enough (water helps with the binding) the "brick" will burn quite slowly. In fact, burn times are comparable to those of a standard log.

The ink is usually petroleum-based, which aids in the initial ignition.

Old tech though, soaked newspapers have been used in fireplaces (at once upon a time, soaked money/cash in post-war Germany) for quite a while now...

My grand-mother had a device for making paper brickettes for burning in the 50s in Finland. So nothing new here.

But just to start a fire, using one of the paper blocks won't hurt. Better than using firelighters!

This is a *very* stupid idea! The burning of paper (with the ink or other printing substance) releases considerable amount of pollution in the air. Also paper burns really fast producing very low amount of heat.
Recycling is a *much* better because of the lower negative environmental impact of the process.
