I am kind shocked how many pictures I took during our 24 hour stay in Macau – I want to finally get to the China pics. But you deserve to see all of the Macau images.
With this post I am going to take you to the Old Downtown of Macau. Here you will see the traditional parts with shops, antique stores and couple of street restaurants. I loved walking through there. I’d just wish I would have brought my medium format camera to take some portraits. Oh well, next time.

Before I forget you could find these wird kids (Business Man) gift sets with a shirt. tie and jacket, toy cell phone and a fake Rollex! Odd! I should have bought one. Arg!

Open for business.

Yummy dried fish.

Lunch, anyone?

Siesta in Macau.

Noodle store and a chat.

Fully stocked corner store.

jd,
thank you very much for the information .. I actually have heard about these paper burning rituals. Didn’t put it together though. These boxes looked like toys to me
Oh, jd has already pointed it out to you. Haha.
This post reminds me strongly of my own hometown. I’m from Malaysia but Chinese are one of the majorities…gah…I’m homesick. =(
Looks like a great place to visit, brings me back to my travels through Asia
Gloria,
I didn’t mean to make you homesick at all .. and Alissa, where did you travel in Asia?
As always, if you have a great story or pictures to share pleae let me know
Have a great day.
China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Burma and Laos
Alissa, If you got any stories and photo you would like to share on RGS, let me know .. this will earn you a link to your site

the paper clothing and watch etc. are not intended for toys but are gifts for dead friends and family members. they are burned so that the dead can enjoy them in the afterlife. there’s also ‘spirit money’ and the full gamut of house hold appliances from rices cookers to radios and t.v.s all made out of paper and cardboard and all fairly realistic. i once saw a beautiful card stock t.v. with a lenticular screen that changed as you walked by it.
