While traveling I totally missed out on that announcement of the new Air MacBook …. it really made me breathless when I watched the guided tour. Apple really produces the coolest gadgets – I have to admit!

I thought this was really sweet. However, I don’t like that it doesn’t have a cd drive. It’s funny because they try to play it off by saying you can do everything wireless. But it’s really like, you don’t need a cd drive! you can do it all wireless!! you just need another computer!!! lol

I wish some day a CD Drive and Hard Drive is not needed anymore …. then they could make even smaller and thinner laptops.

I definitely agree, a cd drive is completely necessary; unless they’re encouraging downloading all software illegally online? Now who would do that? Terrible terrible.

The other big issue with this is the price– 1.8GHz, 64GB hard drive for over 3,000 dollars?! That’s steep for not much power.

While I always respect mac and I appreciate their innovation, this definitely is a building block but not necessarily a hit in itself.

If you want to hear more about that, I talk about it on my page in an article called “Apple unveils new MacBook Air: Steve Jobs claims atmosphere and everybody’s totally fine with it” posted on Jan. 16, 2008

The lack of a CD ROM drive does not assert that folks will download software illegally.

    1. The Air Book comes with software to install on ANY PC or MAC with a CD ROM DRIVE. This software allows the Air Book to access (wirelessly) the cd rom drive of another computer.

    2. Apple is offering an external USB-powered CD ROM drive for about $100.

    3. To address you issue with price. The 64 GB SOLID STATE DRIVE means it is much much more durable than a standard hard disk ( no moving parts)….therefore the price should be higher. The Air Book is available with a standard hard drive, reducing the price by $1,000.

if u wanna show off!! then this apple baby is jus made for u….
those who value money ..this is an absolute rip off!! and with no CD drive..that is insane man!

The Air is built for the traveling executive right? So, no DVD drive means no DVD movies while you travel. Assuming we still have no wireless in the skies right? Also, with no replaceable battery, what happens when it does? Apple is notorious for crap batteries.

    Oh and that price?

I’m not convinced. Get the iPod battery fixed then we can talk Mr. Jobs.
