This year - 2010 - there will be about 5 Metro lines - from about 45 k to 170 k. And to bargain you dont need to speak Chinese, just put in a price in the almost always present calculators, the vendor will probably enter a higher price, just act like walking away - if you didn't go too low on your offer he/she will call you back and accept your price - its easy I do it all the time - of course sometime my offer is just too low. The Shekou ferry port is great for easy get aways to Hong Kong Island (Central) and to Zhuhai-Macau. And in Shekou are a lot of great facilities and shopping. Nearby is the 3 year old bridge across the Shenzhen Bay, one can take a city bus to Hong Kong Tuen Mun for about 1 Euro and move on from there. Regarding the aggressive vendors, beggars and illegal taxi drivers - just dont be nice to them, show them some aggressiveness and they'll back off. To be timid here means you'll get walked over all the time - its just the way folks are here. Remember - its a different country and culture.
