A cairns couple discovered a giant 5m (16ft) python devouring their family pet dog. When they found the snake eating their pet, only it’s hind legs and tails were visible from the Python’s mouth. The dog will take 2 days to digest. The python actively stalked their silky terrier-cross chihuahua.
The couple now fear for their children because they have already lost a pet cat and guinea pig to snakes in the area.
“When it happens once, you think it’s a one-off, but last night I thought “this is serious,” he said.
“We have ducted air-conditioning. Call it paranoia, but my big fear is that a snake will get in there.”
Stuart Douglas from the Australian Venom Zoo said pythons were amazing animals that belonged in the Far North but people needed to be aware that pets were potential prey.
“These pythons used to feed on wallabies but now they feed on cats and dogs in suburbia,” he said.
I have an irrational fear of snakes, and my husband could tell you many funny stories of my out encounters with them, reading the story in the Cairns Post sent chills down my spine.

Interesting story but didn’t manage to see how the python eat the dog. This is the missing part.
