Fallas is finally over – it was an exciting last 19 days, full with surprises and things I have never seen or experienced before.

It’s just shocking that the whole world is talking about St. Patrick’s Day but not about Fallas which is happening at the same time. Compared to Fallas e is the most boring event ever! e And yet, everyone talks about it and most people never even heard about the biggest festival right after the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

Here a recap of Fallas:

  • Everything starts with the e (The sweet awakening of the city)
  • Same day the beginning of Fallas gets celebrated with the Cridà which ends with a firework (of course)
  • March first is the beginning of the daily 2 pm Mascletà until the 19th of March (the last one was the best!)
  • On the 15th it starts to get crazy. First of all the whole downtown of Valencia gets shut down – no more traffic! Then it’s the Planta (Planting) of the Fallas. The most expensive one this year was € 750,000 Euro and yesterday they announced that one of the Fallas for 2009 will cost a Million Euro (CRAZY) Check them out on our Fallas Map. These are just the big one but there were a total of 750 monuments.
  • Same day millions of people are taking over the city – just walking from one Fallas to the other and yes some people are getting really wasted. And I have seen some crazy shit ;) ! Every "Day" now ends with a gigantic firework and the last one is called "Nit de Foc" – Night of Fire!
  • On the 17th they are starting a 2 day parade (both days from 4pm to 1:30 in the morning) to bring flowers for the Lady of the Forsaken.
  • Last day! The whole city is so ready for it to be over – partying straight for 4 days now! It’s time for Fallas to come to an end. After the last Mascletà all the neighborhoods lighting up theirs and whole Valencia just vibrates. Then at 7pm you can enjoy the Cabalgata del Feugo (Parade of fire) and if some now still think that PDay is anything special – shame on you!
  • And now the final last step! La Cremà – all Fallas are getting burned. A whole year of work and all the money goes up in flames for almost nothing.

2 days later and I still feel exhausted!

Watch this La Crema Video and you will get a sense what this is all about:
