Head to Castleberry Hills, it's the loft district. Lots of great places to photograph (very urban, lots of train tracks, and VERY diverse, a taste of the real atlanta), cool galleries too. Although underrated, Atlanta has a fantastic dining scene, great little restaurants and bars all over the place. I'm gonna have to agree with ali. If you really want to get a feel for the city have a burger at the Varsity, have one at the Vortex, and then have another at Holeman and Finch. You'll see what kind of diversity the city has to offer

I feel silly, but I can't actually find the email on that link, so I'll just post here.

If you're looking for good place to photograph you gotta check out little 5 points and Cabbage Town - there's a really cool bridge near there full of crazy graffiti.

My favorite place to photograph in Atlanta is Pullman's Yard - its an abandoned train station that you actually need to sneak into, but has some AMAZING urban decay shots.

As for sights, DEFINITELY check out the aquarium - its one of the biggest in the world, and wonderful. Coca Cola has a factory right next door which is a lot of fun too.

I go to Georgia Tech and its a pretty great place to check out - we have a great rec center built for the Olympics. It has two pools, water slide, etc. The campus is really nice in general.

Piedmont Park is also a great place to go. Nice big park with lakes and such. You can rent a bike out and just go around. There's a big dog park if you like dogs :)

If you're willing to take a bit of a drive/bus ride, Stone Mountain is a really cool hike - look that one up.

As for food, everyone will tell you you need to go to The Varsity, but I find it really greasy and gross to be honest. Number one restaurant to visit in my opinion is The Vortex. That's in Little 5 Points too.

There's so much more that I can't even think to mention. Send me an email if you have any specific ideas for places you want to go or if you wanna see some of those pictures from the places I mentioned. Atlanta is a GREAT city :)

I lived in Atlanta for about 20 years. Here are a few random food recommendations:

La Fonda Latina - excellent, cheap Cuban food
Fellinis - excellent, cheap pizza
Mellow Mushroom - excellent, slightly less cheap pizza
Floataway Cafe - Upscale, innovative cuisine. Nice atmosphere
Watershed Cafe - Slightly fancy (exceptionally tasty) takes on basic southern food
Chequers (for brunch) - Vast seafood restaurant that does an unexpectedly good brunch buffet
