HELP: Which new Phone?

New-Galaxy-Tab

So, my iPhone 3G’s Wifi Antenna is still busted and fixing costs as much as a new phone. Just being dependent on Edge is causing trouble since my T-Mobile prepaid sim card only provides me with 100MB Data a month. That is enough for my tweeting, facebook and checking mail but used to check news while still in bed which I now need to do via the limited data signal. My iPhone is now over 2 1/2 years old and I think it is time for a new phone. That’s when the trouble starts…

I’ve sworn myself to never ever buy an other Apple Product again. So what are the options? I DON’T KNOW! I keep scanning gadget sites for the perfect solution considering I’ll need an unlocked phone since for our Travel Blog we will be in a new country every 3 month. Well I did find some gadgets I might like .. sigh:

  • HTC DESIRE HD It’s a need phone with a big screen and comes unlocked if I buy the international version. I like the look and feel of it but it is fairly expensive.
  • Galaxy S Kind of looks like an iPhone 3G but a little cheaper I would say. Comparing the specs this phone will be still an upgrade to my current phone.
  • Synapse Phone Which let’s you built your own Smartphone. The phone customized phone I would like from them would not even be too expensive but I don’t think they will go into production any time soon.
  • Galaxy Tab This option is more like a tablet PC but the international version has SIM slot so I could use it as a “regular” phone too. This would be a great option since I could even do some work from it, read up on blogs, use it as an eReader, etc BUT …. I just can’t see my self pulling out this huge emm ringing cutting board and hold it against my ear to chat up. On the other hand I don’t use my phone barely for doing calls.
  • iPhone4 Yeah, you saw it right. Maybe I should just suck it up and buy an other stinken Apple product. I mean, it’s the best smartphone out there right and if I would buy it from 02 in Germany it would even come unlocked.

Do you maybe have a suggestion for me? What do you think I should do?

HTC DESIRE HD is the one.
Anyway, you should buy a phone whit Android. I have an iPhone 3GS, and i tested an iPhone 4G, but i tested some Android phones too.
Android will be the best OS in one year (Maybe 2).
Whit Android you can navigate more easy on the internet.
This words are from an iPhone lover … image that.

Life Care – really eying the Desire HD. But I have heard about bad battery performance. But besides that it’s the phone of my dreams (so far)

If you are semi-good handling electronics, replacing the antenna shouldn’t be too hard. You could also replace the battery in the process to get better performance. I don’t think apple will change the next gen iphone too much. http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/11329/iPhone+3G+wifi+antenna .

i would highly recommend the droid pro or droid x. i have the x and love it. i get great service here in wisconsin(which some other phones/services dont get) and all the apps are awesome. the x is a little on the large size but its really thin, and the screen is worth it. the voice controls are awesome along with navigation(completely replaced my gps).

Andre – I just got in touch with missionrepair, they have a used antenna, thinking of fixing it myself but still I want a new phone ;)

Eric, yeah looked at the Droid X phones, they look awesome but don’t they exclusively work on Verizon? Can you access the SIM card on your phone?

Can’t you use a bluetooth headset with the galaxy tab? If you don’t have a problem transporting such a big “phone” everywhere, it’s a great solution.

Use a bluetooth headset with the galaxy tab to avoid having to hold it to your ear.
