Making cities and towns bike friendly could solve tons of traffic problems. The best biking city I ever lived in was in Berlin. Valencia has it’s potential since there is almost all good weather all year around and it’s pretty flat. But drivers here are just way too out of control but the city offers a fairly good amount of bike lanes. Main problem though is where to put the bikes. Valencia is well known for it’s bike thefts and on top of it house owners hate seeing bike parked in the hallway or courtyards. Want a bike so badly … should go with the designer folding bike.

I saw this book in a “design” shop at the airport in Stockholm when I was traveling to Helsinki. Meant to blog about it but oh well, here it is.. the Penis Poke Book. Happy Poking! But I don’t want get any complaints about poked eyes and stuff.

This book contains no nudity. No profanity. No sexual material of any kind. And yet it just might be the most obscene thing we’ve ever published! Penis Pokey is an illustrated board book with a large die-cut hole in its center. Every spread features a dazzling full-color illustration with one thing missing—a banana, perhaps, or a fire hose, or a sea serpent.

Male readers can complete the illustrations using the talents God has given them. Are we serious? Yes! Is this funny? Absolutely! Will this be a terrific hit with college students, bachelorette parties, and exhibitionists of all ages? Of course! Penis Pokey is far and away thestrangest and funniest novelty book we’ve seen in a long, long time.

Lovely Jaime shows off the feature of that book with her mouth:

The gigantic book BHUTAN is a breathtaking photographic adventure across the legendary last Himalayan kingdom. Teams from MIT and Friendly Planet took over 60,000 photographs on four extensive expeditions. Portraits of people are life-size or bigger. Panoramas convey the staggering sweep of the Great Himalayan Range and the awesome and unique ancient architecture. Tantric Buddhist dancers, clad in a rainbow of sparkling brocade silks, almost seem to be leaping off the page. According to Guinness World Records, at over five by seven feet (and 133 pounds), this beautiful photographic book is the largest published book in the world–about one of the world’s smallest countries.

This chair is great if you want to hit the road in your RV or camper but don’t want to leave the joys of S&M behind. It folds up into it’s own little pouch bag so you can carry it on day hikes and you can blow it up(or order it blown up) with a bicycle pump or even by mouth. The exterior is not really tough enough for the rough stuff, but the simulated plastic covering makes clean ups a snap. And please remember folks, while this chair is great fun in the family pool(the velcro restraints make great beverage holders) this is NOT intended as a safety flotation device.

About the book:

The genius of Jabari Asim’s book is not it’s exposition of the word "Nigger", a subject that has been explored in contemporary detail by Randall Kennedy, Cornel West and others. Mr. Asim’s book is really about the poisonous notion of Black inferiority, its pervasiveness in the American societal framework, and, finally, its expression through use of the word "Nigger". The N Word is destructive because of the vitriolic beliefs and attitudes that are associated with it. Asim teaches us this as straightforwardly as he knows how, and leaves us to make conclusions. I’m sending this book to my closest friends; it is a must for any comprehensive library on American race studies.

On the flight over to the US I read this super sweet comic Amulet book one: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi <- with blog.To be honest I’m not the biggest comic fan unless they make a movie out of it – like Sin City.

Well, me and Random Good Stuff endorse Amulet and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book.

Almost too clever and poignant, Amulet is, on the surface, about navigating the murky waters of adolescence and, beneath that, an exploration of abandonment and survival. Emily and Navin are lost children, literally lost in a dark, new world and struggling to save their mother, who has been kidnapped by a drooling, tentacled beast.

With stellar artwork, imaginative character design, moody color and consistent pacing, this first volume’s weakness lies in its largely disjointed storytelling. There is the strong, young, heroine; cute, furry, sidekicks; scary monsters-all extraordinary components, but pieced together in a patchwork manner. There is little hope in his dark world as Kibuishi removes Emily and Navin’s frame of safety.

Their hopes rest in a magic amulet that seems to be working in the interest of the children-until it suddenly isn’t. The most frightening element of Amulet is the sense of insecurity we feel for Emily, fighting her way through uncharted terrain with no guide and no support system. This first volume of Amulet isn’t a disappointment, but it does feel like a warmup to the main event. If anything, it’s a clear indication that Kibuishi has just begun skimming the surface of his own talent.

As some of you already know .. I am a sucker for illusions and tricky eye stuff. This is very similar to the recent optical illusion video on RGS.

There’s never before been a book like Gallop! Employing a patented new technology called Scanimation, each page is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. It’s impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again.

A first book of motion for kids, it shows a horse in full gallop and a turtle swimming up the page. A dog runs, a cat springs, an eagle soars, and a butterfly flutters. Created by Rufus Butler Seder, an inventor, artist, and filmmaker fascinated by antique optical toys, Scanimation is a state-of-the-art six-phase animation process that combines the "persistence of vision" principle with a striped acetate overlay to give the illusion of movement. It harkens back to the old magical days of the kinetoscope, and the effect is astonishing, like a Muybridge photo series springing into action-or, in terms kids can relate to, like a video without a screen. Complementing the art is a delightful rhyming text full of simple questions and fun, nonsense replies: Can you gallop like a horse? giddyup-a-loo! Can you strut like a rooster? cock-a-doodle-doo!

Every child who opens the book will be amazed-and so will every parent.
