With Rivka Gillieron doing vocals and guitar, Sarah Datblygu on drums and Billy Easter playing bass, Wetdog, the international group formed two years ago and has been making musical noise in the underground scene since. This east London all female group initially debuted in 2008 with little luck, however their new album, ‘Frauhaus!’to most is a little more concise and filled with rich harmonies.

‘Lower Leg’, a track from their new album is comparable to New York punk-funk females Bush Tetras with its heavy cowbell embellished bassline. The only downside is that most of the tracks on their album are less than two minutes, many of the songs are merely sketches not punchy enough to work as punk songs nor develop into anything more. Signed to Angular records, to most the group is on its way to becoming a major force in the underground music scene.  Either way it goes, check them out and tell us what you think!

British signer- songwriter Ellie Goulding has had quiet the break through year in 2009. The 21 year old who spent most of her time growing up in Powys, Wales, is currently finishing recording her debut album with producer Mark Ronson, set to be released early 2010.

Armed with a guitar and sweet distinctive vocals, her first single “Under the Sheets” premiered on BBC this past September and has since gained heavy airplay. Gouling has been on tour throughout Europe since 2008, and has recently scheduled more tour dates for 2010.

According to sources, she was just announced the winner of the Brits 2010 Critic’s Choice Award, and will give a live performance at the award show this year in London. When asked about the award she stated, “I didn’t believe it at first but now that it’s sunk in I am delighted and utterly honored to have been given this award.” Past recipients of the award include Grammy award wining singer Adele, and Florence and the Machine. Ellie Goulding’s debut album will feature collaborations with Frankmusik, Jackwob and a list of others. Be sure to keep a look out for her in 2010.

For 25 year old singer-songwriter Calvin Harris, music has been a passion since a young age. First attracted to electronic music in his teens, he began recording bedroom demos by 1999. After his music had been discovered on MySpace, Harris signed contracts with EMI publishing and Sony BMG in 2006.

In his short career he has already written and produced records for other recording artists including Kylie Minogue, and British rapper Dizzee Rascal. His second album, Ready for the Weekend, released in August 2009, reached an unexpected number 1 in the UK album charts. Hit singles “I’m Not Alone”, and “Ready For the Weekend” have created quiet the buzz, helping him solidify a name in the music industry.

For the past few months, Harris has been touring the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and the United States promoting his new album and hit singles. Calvin Harris is set to headline the London O2 Arena New Year’s Eve event, making it one of many upcoming appearances. In addition, he has been confirmed for next year’s Camp Bestial which takes place July 30 – August 1 in Dorset.  Check out his music, it’s fresh, new, and innovative.  He’s definitely an artist to look out for in the near future.

More music tips: Lykee Li: Indie Music Sensation / Crookers Debut Album “Tons Of Friends”

Swedish songstress Lykke Li is only 23 years old, but is already making a name for herself. Her debut album, Youth Novels, was a hit packed with the explosion of electronic pop-rock and a little new age. Her soft vocals on the album transcend lightly layered, minimalist instrumentals creating a unique and distinctive sound. Growing up, Lykke’s family spent time in Lisbon, Morocco, Nepal and India which she credits as a major influence on her music.  At the age of 21, she moved to a section of Brooklyn, NY called Bushwick to record her album.

Lykke over the past two years has become increasingly popular with indie music fans. She took her flavor of music more mainstream, receiving a great deal of notoriety for her cover of “Knocked Up”, originally recorded by Kings of Leon, and “Little Bit” in which she performs a remix of her song with hip hop sensation Drake. In addition, Lykke Li performed at this years’ Coachella and Lollapalooza music festivals.

Recently, she was asked to write a song for the sound track of box office hit New Moon. After seeing an early screening of the movie she became inspired and wrote  her most recent hit “Possiblity.” According to sources, she has started writing material for her second album but insists it will be a long wait until it is finished for fans to hear. Either way she is definitely an artist to keep a look out for in the future.

The hot fuss surrounding CROOKERS is about to reach a new level. Already one of the hippest act in dance circles they will soon unleash their debut album, “TONS OF FRIENDS”. The Italian dj duo has quickly grown from the tiny clubs to massive venues and festivals throughout the world.

Despite the constant remix request from international stars like U2, Moby and many others, they’re committed to staying grounded amongst all the hype. Bot, one half of the duo insisted their success has changed little about their life so far, with non stop traveling and outspoken friends helping them keep their feet firmly on the ground. “We rarely stay in five star hotels, and we’ve never ever flown first class and only fly business class for long haul killer flights such as to Australia,” he added.

He also emphasized that the duo remains committed to experimental music despite becoming so popular with mass audiences in the last two years. “We always do what we feel like in the moment, thinking about going mainstream doesn’t really work,” said Bot. “For example, when we did the Kid Cudi track we remixed it for free and it didn’t even appear on the 12 inch when the single was first released,” he pointed out. “Then 12 months later it’s at number 2 in the UK.”

The first single unleashed from the debut album was a Hip Hop club banger ‘PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME’, that featured the vocals of kardinal offishial and carla – marie. The collaborative-heavy LP includes Tim Burgess, Roisin Murphy, Kelis, Pitbull, Radioclit, Scandinavian electro-royalty Soulwax as well as rap maestro Kardinal Offishal and Xenomania’s Carla-Marie, who are both featured on Crookers’ new single, Put Your Hands On Me. “Tons Of Friends” is expected to be released  in January 2010. It’s been a while since I posted… I have moved interstate for a new job, and am now sitting bored in a hotel in Qinhuangdau, China on a business trip… so here goes:

This little Koala was watching a bit too much OutKast and Ludacris and decided to get himself some new grills [wiki]. So he found a car heading along a highway in Brisbane, and decided to try on the grill of a mid-sized sedan.

The car was traveling at 100kph (60 miles), and he ended up being dragged for 12 kilometres until another motorist noticed the poor little fella and flagged the car down.

“To have him survive and virtually unscathed is quite miraculous,” Australian Wildlife Hospital spokeswoman Carolyn Beaton told Reuters on Tuesday.

“Lucky” hung on during his ordeal with one arm and his trapped head, and was freed with household scissors used like a fireman’s “jaws-of-life” to cut around the car’s mesh grill with the horrified owner’s permission, Beaton said.

“Whilst Lucky was in shock, he quickly recovered and was nearly better after a couple of hours rest and a feed,” she said.

Lucky will stay at the hospital, set up by the late television wildlife and crocodile crusader Steve Irwin, for 45 days to recover from his experience and receive treatment for a chlamydial infection.

I guess those Gangsta rapping koalas are also susceptible to STI’s.
