- Fishy Business

We are back from our extended weekend trip from Granada. We had a blast! The city was incredible but to be honest … the best thing about Granada were the free Tapas you get with your beer. Above is an example … which cost us only $ 5.57 for the 2 beers, again all food you see was for free. We didn’t spent any money on food (except only one time we went to an Arabic restaurant). I’m totally spoiled now. Need to move to Granada!

Also … our hotel was pretty neat and super central but the walls were super thin! So we had this French couple in the room next to us who have been on some kind of love potion. They have been at it non stop and it really sounded like they were right in our room. How do you react to that? Go knock at the door? Well, we didn’t get too much sleep! She even screamed “Oh Ouuuiii” one time!

- Cheap Car Rentals in Spain

I like casinos, horse races and good beer = I’m easy to please. Well, most of the time. So on the last trip to US Mike’s parents took us to the French Lick Casino which is located in the middle of nowhere. You would never guess such massiveness out there.

We stayed a night in their hotel and on the next day after a night of gambling we drove over to the awesome West Baden Hot Spring Hotel. Which is right next door.

Wikipedia tells us this:

In 1852, John Lane built a hotel on a site near the town of Mile Lick that he named the Mile Lick Inn. The town was renamed West Baden in 1855, so Lane changed the hotel name to the West Baden Inn. In 1887, the Monon railroad built an extension to take guests to the springs and the hotel. By the late 1800s, seven railroads brought guests from all over the country to the Springs Valley for relaxation and the alleged curative powers of the mineral water.

A group that included Lee Wiley Sinclair from Salem, Indiana acquired controlling interest in the hotel in 1888. Sinclair soon became sole owner and transformed it into a sophisticated resort, including an opera house, a casino—advertised as "The Carlsbad of America" and a two-deck, covered, one-third-mile oval bicycle and pony track. A lighted baseball diamond in the center of the track became the spring training grounds for several major league teams including the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. Fire destroyed the entire hotel building in less than two hours in June, 1901; however, no guests were injured. Owner Lee Sinclair declared that the new hotel would be fireproof and would have the world’s largest dome. Most professionals in the architectural community considered it impossible, but unknown West Virginia architect Harrison Albright completed the new West Baden Springs Hotel on time.

The new structure opened in September 1902 and if the advertisements and articles about the new hotel were true, the facility deserved being called the Eighth Wonder of the World. It was claimed that the resort’s mineral baths and drinking waters could cure everything from sterility to senility. The hotel’s amenities included two golf courses, billiards, bowling, baseball, swimming, horseback riding, bicycling and hiking on scenic trails, movies and nightly theatre. On-site personal services included a stock brokerage, banking and a barbershop. Birds flew freely in the 200-foot-diameter atrium, and an enormous fireplace burned 14-foot logs to take the chill off on cool evenings. Source and more info.

Pretty impressive though, he? If we ever go back I want to stay there one night. The French Lick casino was not very big but had my game of choice – Blackjack $5 mind. bet table but was missing a Pai Gow Poker table. Oh well. Did gut even after I hit a straight flush on Video Poker !

Reaching out sometimes can really help sometimes. I got to stay in this awesome boutique hotel in Atlanta after I finished up with my photo job there. The hotel is right next to the Artes Center metro station which connects Midtown, Downtown and the airport with that one train. A cap ride to downtown from this hotel is $8.

Loved staying this hotel – very modern but not over the top interior design, the rooms are very comfortable and personal ( greetings cards addressing you by your name are all over the place), tons of store, kitchen area, flat screen TV and great big bed!!! What I like best about the Artmore Hotel is the fact that they have more free wifi routers then electronic outlets, it seem and they will not charge you for that. Big thumbs up for that.

Also included is breakfast, fitness room and this really awesome outside fireplace.

So if you are ever in need of a need and too to big hotel in Atlanta check out the Artmore Hotel.

From the outside the Marquis Marriott Atlanta looks like any other high rise hotel except for the belly curved sites. Once you step in the only thing there is left to say is BWOAH! I thought the Marquis Marriott in Times Square NYC is breathtaking but the Marquis Marriott Atlanta is truly unique and I never have seen anything like this before. It feels organic and looks like a spaceship and the Noak’s Ark at the same time.

For our German speaking readers: Tipps zum Michael Schumacher Rennen in Valencia

To be honest I’m not the biggest Formula 1 fan but I’m a pretty big fan of the City Valencia. So the news that Michael Schumacher will come back from his retirement ( since 2006) is like the greatest thing for Valencia and the Formula1. Since the will probably the most watched F1 race ever.

Ticket sales for the event have been down before the news but I bet every single ticket will be gone before the race.

You probably already well know that I currently live in Valencia, Spain, so in case you are planning to visit for the race and have questions don’t be shy to ask.

I’m a bad bad blogger .. feel guilty that I haven’t updated in such a long time. I did do some tweeting. So next time it is pretty calm on RGS you will probably find out on twitter why. So do please follow me.

Where was I? Well, just got back from a photo job in Helsinki. It’s a fun city but just way too cold. It was as cold there than it was in December in Valencia. I just can guess how cold it can get during the winter months.

It was very odd too that it stays so long bright out and in June it will almost stay light all night. But then again in winter it will stay dark almost all the time. Very depressing.

Food wise it was pretty interesting. Tons of interesting breads and I went to a Lapland restaurant and had Moos and Reindeer .. (sorry Rudolph). They also have tons of different berries.

There is tons to do and to see in Helsinki. We just had time to walk around a little and took a boat ride out to the world biggest fortress island.

Helsinki is cool I might visit again. I might even dare coming back in winter. Brrrrr!

On an other note. Please keep me in mind if you need a congress photographer. Worldwide

Yawn – I totally agree that most hotels should step up a little or at least offer free wifi but investing money coming up with those rather lame concepts? I don’t know.
