Oh – hold on! WTF is this … ?

They put a Playstation 3 game in the Wii bundle. MAN! That’s it now! Christmas is ruined – Thank you Activision. What now? Sigh! This just plain sucks. How how are the chances? We only won 20 Euros in the El Gordo and on top of that there is the wrong game in the bundle.

Mike’s brother just turned 30 and we decided to give him the only thing he really wants – Rock Band! The only condition was the he writes a review for Random Good Stuff:

ROCK BAND FOR WII Rock Band, a game that’s growing in popularity throughout the world, just found its way into my home and ME SO HAPPY!

Competition is what modern video games are built around, but rocking WITH YOUR FRIENDS is infinitely more exciting than pwning some 12 yr old hillbilly from Texas. Rock Band was made for the Wii. It gets people moving, sweating, and HAVING FUN. The song choice isn’t quite up to Guitar Hero standards, but every now and then you’ll be pleasantly surprised by a relatively obscure song that held a place in your heart during your angst-ridden teenage years.

The drums are the biggest departure from GH, and the biggest bonus on the game. As long as you start on Easy and gradually master your skills (especially with the kick drum) anyone can pick up the coordination necessary to survive, if not excel. Almost everyone I’ve played with has expressed the opinion that playing real drums, all of a sudden, seems like a possibility. One friend of mine, who had absolutely no experience with drums at all in her entire life, was able to play Expert on drums almost immediately. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. To this day, she’s the only person I’ve ever met who can do it.

Whoever grabs the microphone has to have courage, a decent sense of tone, and a fairly wide knowledge of song lyrics. Mastering the singing is definitely the toughest aspect of the game. I’ve known a fairly decent singer (myself) to get booted off the stage after mere moments on Hard. The lyrics that scroll across the top of the screen are small, so you’d be best served to have a huge TV or know the words by heart. The mic is usually the one instrument that no one wants to play. The only thing that sucks about Rock Band for Wii is the absence of online play. That immediately makes the Wii version pale in comparison to the Xbox360 and PS3 versions. Also, I haven’t unlocked every song yet, but so far, there’s way too much fast-paced repetitive thrash-punk…like The Ramones.

Rock Band I for the Wii is available right for $99 at Amazon including all the instruments.

An other note from me – Rock Band II is out but the special edition set with all the instruments is twice as much. So I’d recommend to buy Rock Band I and just buy the game for Rockband II! This will save you couple of bucks.

Too bad I lost now all my interest playing Guitar Hero! So I guess I have to suck it up and buy Rock Band as well!
